SEVDAH
Wikipedia says: “Sevdah is a traditional genre of folk music from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Sevdah song is called sevdalinka.”
Maybe, but Sevdah is above all that magical moment.
When it gets late.
When the underground, windowless room where you sit close to each other becomes by far the most beautiful place in town.
When extra drinks and new snacks are brought in.
When we raise the glasses to the past and “may the future be better”.
When we raise the glasses once more but then to the here and now.
When the people you sit next to become your best friends for once and for all.
When those friends tell you one story after another.
When you breathe in every word of those stories.
When it no longer matters in what language those stories are told.
When, God knows how, you understand that language.
When everyone is in complete agreement that (forget Marx and Nietzsche) the stories told by the Sevdalinka are the only real texts that matter.
When there is drinking and tasting, when there is singing and storytelling.
When there is laughter and when there is silence.
When, hours later, someone finally stands up, someone takes the last piece of cheese, someone puts on a jacket, someone closes a violin case.
When everyone looks each other in the eyes.
When you realize: “I was there, I experienced it and I will never forget it”.

HASANAGIN SEVDAH
Gdje su dani oni
kad je srce puno rahatluka bilo?
Znaš li čase one?
Pozno sunce sije,
vrhovi munara kao vatra gore,
a svuda iz bašća miris djula vije.
Eh, my little white horse,
my right wing,
where is that period?
Where are those days
when my heart was full of satisfaction?
Do you know those moments?
The late sun was shining.
Tips of minarets were burning like fire,
and everywhere from the garden the scent of roses was intertwining.

SEVDAH
Wikipedia zegt: “Sevdah is a traditional genre of folk music from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
